This poetry was discovered in Papa George’s collection of writing at his home in Mexico. The poetry was written in his own hand and is legible, indicating he still was able to see, most likely with the help of corrective lenses or by positioning the paper close to his eyes. This work was written in the 1960s during his adventures in Ibiza and Majorca when he was in his early thirties and reflects the naïve heart and soul of a poet in the throes of love and adventure. At this point in George’s life, he is separated from his first wife, with whom he has a daughter, Désirée (b 1958). It is approximately ten years before the birth of his second daughter, Karuna (b 1975), and more than twenty years before Angela (b 1986) and Tashi (b 1988) are born. It will be decades before his daughter Meredith (1969) discovers her siblings and is welcomed into the family (2018). The original documents were reviewed for poetic potential and edited to protect the identity of lovers and to correct misspellings. For example, “Val demosa” has been corrected to Valldemossa. Although I took the lead in editing this work, Karuna, Angela, and Tashi all provided insightful input.
